The company
Built to unlock the value in your data
Waterloo Analytics builds solutions that enable clients to exploit the value locked in their organization’s data. We are an AI and machine-learning firm in Kitchener, Ontario, in the heart of Canada’s Technology Triangle, and the way we work is shaped by four commitments.
High ethical standards
We hold our work and our advice to a high ethical standard, especially where AI affects people and the decisions made about them.
Client confidences preserved
We routinely handle confidential and NDA-bound material, and we treat client confidences as a matter of course.
A client-first perspective
We start from your outcome and recommend what serves your business, not what sells ours.
Cost-effective solutions
We right-size the solution to the problem, so you pay for outcomes, not over-built technology.
Leadership
Stephen Bacso
Founder and CEO

Stephen Bacso builds and commercializes advanced technology companies.
He is a serial technology entrepreneur, AI strategist, inventor, and executive leader with more than 20 years of experience applying Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning across healthcare, finance, advanced manufacturing, digital twins, medical imaging, and electromagnetic energy harvesting. His work focuses on converting complex science into defensible intellectual property, scalable products, and high-value companies.
Stephen co-founded PixStream, one of Canada’s most successful technology startups, acquired by Cisco Systems for more than $550 million. Across his career, he has raised more than $200 million in venture and private capital and generated more than $600 million in investor returns. He has served as CEO, CTO, founder, board member, and strategic advisor to private and public companies, including helping take a company public on the TSX Venture Exchange.
As an intellectual property strategist, Stephen is a named inventor on more than 20 issued patents. The technologies he has built and commercialized fall into three areas: applied AI, including diagnostics, clinical decision support, and predictive analytics; sensing and imaging, including LiDAR-based digital twins and intelligent sensing; and financial infrastructure built on blockchain.
Stephen conducts third-party due diligence on AI technologies for law firms and enterprises involved in mergers, acquisitions, investment decisions, and strategic technology assessments. His expertise combines deep technical evaluation with executive judgment on defensibility, scalability, intellectual property, product-market fit, and commercialization risk.
Earlier in his career, Stephen worked on advanced avionics systems for U.S. defense programs, including controls, displays, imaging, real-time visualization, and multi-sensor fusion. This foundation in mission-critical systems shaped his approach to building technologies where accuracy, reliability, and execution matter.
Stephen has served on corporate and charitable boards for more than two decades and has been an active contributor to the Waterloo Region technology ecosystem. He also advises innovation organizations, supporting the commercialization of Canadian intellectual property and the development of high-growth technology ventures.
Today, Stephen leads Waterloo Analytics and directs every engagement personally, from model engineering and agentic systems to AI security and governance and technical due diligence. He continues to advise companies developing AI, imaging, digital twin, and sensing technologies, with a focus on building category-defining platforms that create lasting strategic and economic value.
